About Us

Care from people who understand how difficult this is.

Compassionate Paws is a family owned and operated veterinary service providing gentle in-home euthanasia for pets and their families across Perth.

Dr Jared and Dr Jo are both qualified and licensed veterinarians who graduated from Murdoch University in 2011. Over the years, they have worked across many different areas of veterinary practice, giving them a broad understanding of both the medical and human side of caring for pets and their families.

But Compassionate Paws began from something much more personal.

Our Story

Compassionate Paws began with Morgan.

Jared and Jo met while studying veterinary medicine at Murdoch University. Jo is a Perth native, while Jared grew up in the north-east of the United States.

They later married and built their family in Perth, where they now live with their three children, their pug Winnie, Milo the galah and Dixon the duck.

Morgan was more than just our first dog. He was our first pet together, and in many ways, our first child.

He was there before our children were born, grew up alongside them, and became part of the rhythm of everyday family life. For our kids, Morgan had simply always been there.

In 2022, our family faced the decision every pet owner dreads: saying goodbye to him.

It was the kind of decision so many families eventually face with a much-loved pet who has been woven into years of memories, milestones and ordinary everyday moments.

We chose to have Morgan euthanased at home.

Being able to keep him somewhere familiar, without the stress of travelling to a veterinary clinic, made an incredibly difficult day feel gentler. Morgan was comfortable, our children were able to be there in their own home, and we had the time and privacy to say goodbye together.

That experience changed the way we thought about end-of-life veterinary care.

It was still a heartbreaking day, but having Morgan at home made saying goodbye a little gentler for all of us.

Compassionate Paws grew from a desire to give other families that same option.

Our Approach

A gentler way to say goodbye.

Every pet is different. Every family is different. And every goodbye is different.

We believe care at the end of life should feel calm, personal and unhurried.

We take the time to listen, answer questions and explain what will happen, so that families understand each step and never feel rushed.

Whenever possible, we want pets to remain where they feel safest: at home, surrounded by familiar smells, familiar voices and the people they love.

Our focus is simple: comfort, dignity and making an incredibly difficult day as gentle as we can.

Since 2022

Thank you for welcoming us into your homes.

Compassionate Paws began in 2022. Since then, we've had the privilege of helping families across Perth say goodbye to their pets at home.

Along the way, we've heard wonderful stories about the lives families have shared with their pets. We've laughed over favourite memories, listened to stories of their adventures and shared plenty of tears and hugs too.

We know how personal it is to invite someone into your home at such a difficult time, and we're grateful for the trust families place in us.

Being there for those final moments is a responsibility we take seriously, and an honour we never take for granted.

Meet The Team

The people behind Compassionate Paws.

Veterinarian | Home Visits

Dr Jared

Jared is the person most families will meet when they arrange a home visit with Compassionate Paws.

He understands that saying goodbye to a pet is never easy, and that every family approaches it differently. His priority is to make each visit as calm and comfortable as possible, taking the time to answer questions, explain what to expect and ensure nobody feels rushed.

Jared believes there is no single right way to say goodbye. Whether a family has lots of questions, needs a little extra time or simply prefers a quiet moment together, he adapts each visit to suit their individual needs, always keeping their pet's comfort and wellbeing at the centre of what he does.

Veterinarian | Fear Free Certified

Dr Jo

Although Jo no longer regularly attends home visits, she's still very much a part of Compassionate Paws.

As a Fear Free certified veterinarian, Jo has a particular interest in reducing fear, anxiety and stress in animals. She draws on this training to help develop the practices and procedures we follow, working closely with Jared to ensure these principles are reflected in the care provided during home visits.

Alongside this, Jo helps with communication, administration and the day-to-day running of Compassionate Paws. Her veterinary experience, attention to detail and commitment to animal welfare help ensure that every family receives thoughtful, compassionate care.

Family Owned

Small, personal and genuinely ours.
